Percent Increase Calculator

Calculate the increase amount and new value after adding a percentage to a starting number.

Guide

What is a percent increase?

A percent increase adds a percentage of a starting value to that value itself. The result is the new value after the increase is applied.

Formula

Increase amount = Starting value × (Increase % ÷ 100). New value = Starting value + Increase amount. Negative increase percentages reduce the value.

Worked example

Increasing 200 by 25% adds 50. The new value is 250.

Assumptions and limitations

The Calculator applies one percentage change to a single entered value. It does not model repeated compounding steps unless you run multiple calculations.

Common questions

How is this different from percentage change?

Percentage change compares two values you already have. Percent increase applies a rate to one starting value. Can I use a negative increase? Yes. A negative increase reduces the value. Is this the reverse of percent off? Percent off starts from a price and subtracts a discount. Percent increase starts from a value and adds a percentage of that value.

Methodology

The Calculator uses shared percentage helpers with exact decimal arithmetic and rounds only the displayed values.
