Percent Off Calculator

Calculate the discount amount and final price after a percentage off an original price.

Guide

What is a percent-off calculation?

A percent-off calculation finds how much a price drops by a stated discount percentage and what the sale price becomes after that discount is removed.

Formula

Discount amount = Original price × (Discount % ÷ 100). Final price = Original price − Discount amount. The original price must be zero or greater and the discount percentage must be between 0 and 100 inclusive.

Worked example

A 200 item with 25% off has a discount of 50. Subtracting 50 from 200 gives a final price of 150.

Assumptions and limitations

The Calculator applies a single percentage discount to the entered original price. It does not stack multiple promotions, coupons, tax, or shipping.

Common questions

Can the discount exceed 100%?

No. A discount above 100% would imply a negative final price in this model. Is this the same as percent increase? No. Percent off reduces a price, while percent increase adds to a value. Can the original price be zero? Yes. The discount and final price are both zero.

Methodology

The Calculator uses shared percentage helpers with exact decimal arithmetic and rounds only the displayed amounts.
