What does this Tip Calculator do?
This Calculator finds the tip on a bill, the total after tip, and the amount per person when the bill is split evenly. It treats the bill and tip percentage as plain numbers without currency conversion.
Formula
Tip amount = Bill × (Tip % ÷ 100). Total amount = Bill + Tip amount. Amount per person = Total amount ÷ Number of people. The number of people must be a whole number greater than zero.
Worked example
On a 100 bill with a 20% tip, the tip is 20 and the total is 120. Split between 2 people, each person pays 60.
Assumptions and limitations
The Calculator assumes an even split across all people and does not model tax lines, service charges, or rounding conventions used by a specific payment app or restaurant.
Common questions
Is the tip calculated on a pre-tax or post-tax bill?
This Calculator uses the amount you enter. Enter whichever base you want to tip on. Can I split across multiple people? Yes. Enter a whole number of people greater than zero. What if the tip percentage is zero? The total equals the bill and each person pays an equal share of the bill.
