Weight Converter
Convert a weight value between grams, kilograms, milligrams, pounds, and ounces using fixed conversion factors.
Guide
What is a weight conversion?
A weight conversion expresses the same mass in a different unit. This Converter uses grams as the common base and applies fixed factors for metric and US customary units.
Formula
Converted value = Input value × (Source unit to grams) ÷ (Target unit to grams). For example, 1 pound equals 453.59237 grams and 1 kilogram equals 1,000 grams, so 1 pound converts to 0.45359237 kilograms.
Worked example
To convert 1 pound to kilograms, multiply 1 by 453.59237 and divide by 1,000. The result is 0.45359237 kilograms.
Assumptions and limitations
The Converter treats weight as mass and uses standard avoirdupois ounce and pound definitions. Values must be zero or greater. It does not distinguish between mass and weight in different gravitational fields.
Common questions
Which units are supported?
Grams, kilograms, milligrams, pounds, and ounces. Is a pound the same as a kilogram? No. One pound is about 0.454 kilograms. Can I convert cooking weights? Yes, as long as the units match the supported avoirdupois and metric definitions.
Methodology
Each unit stores a fixed multiplier to grams. The Converter applies exact decimal arithmetic and rounds only for display.
